Game and Parks hosting virtual ice-fishing presentations
NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) -On Jan. 19, Nebraska Game and Parks is hosting a presentation on safety techniques and new technology in the world of ice-fishing.
“This new generation has the opportunity to apply new technology that used to be people sitting around a hole,” said Aquatic Education Specialist Larry Pape.
The programs are designed to help beginners learn more about the safety protocols, equipment, and clothing involved in ice-fishing.
“It can be a really safe activity as long as you take the precautions and to do it right,” said Pape. “If not, you can get into trouble quickly. People should really join us if they have any interests in ice fishing for the safety aspect of it.”
The popularity of ice-fishing has risen throughout the years based on new gear and techniques. Some of the new technology includes scanners that show the fish attracted to the bait.
One thing that ice-fishing also brings is unity among other fishermen.
“Most people think you are alone on the ice, but it really a social activity,” said Pape. “It is an incredibly social activity you can do with your friends, family and children. You can meet a community of people on the ice.”
