NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - In July, people will descend upon North Platte in groves - from several states, far and near - to participate in a 2021 Platte River Cruise event, planned for July 9-11. In anticipation of the big event, a regular Platte River Cruise Night took place Friday. On the agenda was pre-registration by organizers, for some of the upcoming events.

The July event is described on the https://www.platterivercruise.com/ website as: “a not-for-profit organization in North Platte, Nebraska that provides an annual Cruise Night event held over 2 days in the summer that is fun for the whole family, including a car show and cruise, vendors, entertainment, a kids cruise, concert and so much more!”

On Friday folks started cruising around 6:00 p.m., and the roars of the engines were heard until around 10:00 p.m., mostly on the ones in North Platte. But fasten your seatbelts, because July is just around the corner, and there are many things to plan for.

The event, of course, includes a car show on Saturday, July 10, from 9:00 a.m to 3:00 p.m., with all makes, models, and years welcome to enter. Categories are: Custom, motorcycle, rat rod, stock, vintage stock, vintage custom, and lifted 4x4. Early preregistration is $25/additional vehicles $15 each. Registering after July 2 costs $30 per entry. Online registration ends on Friday, July 9, at 1:00 p.m. Registration and social on the weekend of the event is Friday, July 9, from 4-7 p.m. down on the bricks in North Platte.

Entertainment for the July event is a concert by Black Water at the Platte River Mall on Friday, July 9, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. And on Saturday it’s Grind 5280 at the Platte River Mall from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Tickets cost $10 for each concert you attend. Combo tickets to go to both shows are available for $15 each.

A Rockabilly Pin-up and Little Miss Rockabilly contests are Saturday, July 10. Registration/Check-in is at 9:30 a.m., and contestants take the stage at 10:00 a.m. inside the Platte River Mall.

There is a Kids Cruise planned for the weekend. On Saturday, July 10, kids load up in hot rod power wheels for their own cruise. Registration begins at 2:30 p.m., with cruising to begin at 3:00 p.m. Online registration ends on Friday, July 9, at 2:00 p.m.

Special guests for the weekend include Dave Kindig, Kindig-It Design, and Counting Cars “Horny Mike.” Gene Winfield is unable to make it to this year’s event.
