NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb (KNEP) - Last year, it wasn’t until September before North Platte saw 100 degree heat, but its coming earlier in 2021. Wednesday will be a Weather Alert Day for dangerous heat, as afternoon temperatures over North Central and Southwest Nebraska climb into the upper 90s and lower 100s. It could be a record breaking day for North Platte if we reach the forecast high of 104, which would easily break the 100 degree record set way back in 1946. The most recent hottest temperature we’ve seen of the magnitude predicted in the city, occurred 4 years ago when it hit 107 on June 21st of 2017.

A stalled cold front will eventually pass through the region bringing refreshingly cooler but seasonal temperatures throughout the region on Friday. There is a slight chance of evening thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday with small chances again possible Saturday into Monday.
